The bucket test compares your pool level against a bucket of water over 24 hours to tell whether the water loss is a real leak or just evaporation. We offer it as a paid service; the cost depends on the size of the pool. Here is how it works:

1. 1Fill a bucket with pool water and set it on the top step, so the bucket water and the pool water start at the same level.
2. 2Mark the water line inside the bucket and the pool water line on the outside of the bucket.
3. 3Leave the pump running as normal and wait 24 hours, avoiding heavy rain if you can.
4. 4Compare the two lines. If the pool dropped more than the bucket, you likely have a leak. If both dropped about the same, it is evaporation.
